Wix Review - UPDATED Jul 2020
Wix is one of the most popular and definitely one of the best website builders around, created with the purpose of making sure that anyone – and that really means anyone – can make a nice-looking, fully functional website for his or herself. The website builder can be used by businesses and individuals for making blogs and just about any other type of site out there. With the new Wix ADI technology, this website builder allows you to create a tailor-made website just for you, and to do it in no time and with minimum effort. Take a look at our Wix review and find out more about this terrific, feature-rich website builder with plenty of apps, nice-looking, responsive templates and extreme ease of use.
Ease of Use
As we already mentioned above, Wix is very easy to use. The whole point of drag & drop editors like Wix is to allow everyone to create a website, regardless of their skill level. In fact, with Wix, you don’t even have to know anything about making websites. You certainly don’t have to know how to code, that’s for sure. It is very intuitive and all you have to do is pick a theme, make a few adjustments (but only if you want to) and drag and drop items and sections across your page. They will automatically fall into the right place and you basically can’t mess it up. Wix now offers an extra feature called ADI, which stands for Artificial Design Intelligence, and it makes things even easier for users.
The good news for those looking for a cheap website builder is that Wix offers a free version of its editor. Of course, the options are quite limited compared to paid versions, but that’s usually the case with free stuff. Still, if you don’t aim high just now and if all you need is a basic, functional website for yourself or your business, it will do the trick.
You can get from 1GB to unlimited bandwidth, depending on the plan, and the storage goes from 500MB to 20GB. The free plan has 500MB storage and 1GB bandwidth.
With Wix, you can opt for a custom domain name as well, which is always a nice touch, especially if you are making a website for your business.
Wix also offers a very useful image editor, like the one you use on your computer or your smartphone when you want to enhance your pictures. You can also make use of over 40 different galleries that Wix offers.
As your website grows, you can opt for additional pages and even for sub-pages. The good news is that Wix allows you to add as many additional pages as you like.
If you want to do more with your website, and if you know how, you can easily embed your own HTML code, using the editor’s text editor, which allows for more customization.
In addition, you can also make use of the app market, where you can pick any of the 250 useful, easy to use apps that improve the functionality and appeal of your website. Some of the interesting and useful apps include the form builder, events calendar, apps for managing subscriptions, site search, FAQ, live chat, and many more. Bear in mind that only some of the apps are free, and for the rest you will have to pay extra.
Mobile & Apps
These days it’s important for a website to be fully functional on a mobile device as well. All Wix-templates are mobile responsive, meaning they are scaled to fit the mobile screen. Furthermore, you can use the mobile editor tool to edit the way you want your mobile site to look, meaning you have full control in that department as well. This editor is just as intuitive as the main one.
If you have profiles on social media websites, you can create a social media bar with buttons for easy linking to all of your profiles on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other popular social media. The bar can be customized to match the visual feel of your page, and you can even upload your own icons. Furthermore, you can make use of a variety of Facebook apps, some of which are very useful, such as Facebook Like Popup, apps for comments, share and page like, and many more.
SEO tools are vital if you want to drive traffic to your website, and fortunately Wix offers a handy SEO Wizard that allows you to improve Search Engine Optimization of your website without any actual knowledge of this technique. All you need to do is enter the keywords for your site and the Wizard will take care of the rest.
Marketing tools are particularly important for business websites. Wiz has tools that can even make an entire campaign for you. For instance, GetTraffic, reserved for those with a premium account, allows you to customize your campaign in terms of target audience and location, and then reaches and engages users, bringing them to your site and increasing your traffic.
All users, including free ones, can use Google AdSense, which basically shows relevant ads on your page and helps you earn money with each click.
Another handy tool is the ShoutOut e-mail marketing tool, which you can use to send updates and newsletters to your contacts.
Wix makes it very easy to find out exactly how many hits your website is getting, from which locations, and other data that helps you learn more about your visitors and about how you can increase their number.
In addition to these, Wix offers plenty of other features that improve your website building experience, the functionality of your site and your traffic and makes it easier for you to manage all that. For instance, when it comes to appearance and design, Wix allows access to a vast gallery of stock images that you can use on your site, some 3D effects, anchor menu, strips, video background and other cool features that make your site look professional and smart.
If you would like your website to have a forum, there is an app for that too, and even though it looks a bit complicated, it is actually pretty easy to use.
In fact, it’s precisely this abundance of excellent, useful apps and features that make Wix so good.
Like all the top website builders, Wix also offers an online store. You can use their own Wix Online Store with an attractive and customizable storefront, and integrate it into your website. The Store Manager helps you keep track of your inventory and orders, which definitely makes things easier for you. If you want to accept various forms of payment, including PayPal and offline payments, and not just credit cards, Wix online store allows that too. You can even set different tax and shipping categories, depending on the destination of the orders. Additional ecommerce tools include price tables, holiday badges, web stats and analytics, site booster, Google AdSense, live chat, Skype and text messages to customers, customer reviews, social media management, community forum and more. It is a solid, robust ecommerce platform that should meet the needs of any small or medium-sized business.
If you have no idea what you want your website to look like, you can start by browsing hundreds of attractive, modern templates, or search by category that fits your preferences or your business. There are templates for different kinds of businesses, and all of them can be customized, of course. There are blank templates too, for those with a knack for art and design, who might want to create their own website theme.
As we said earlier in which Wix review, all the templates are mobile responsive, you don’t have to worry about your website not fitting a mobile device screen.
Help & Support
When it comes to customer support, Wix is available through ticket system for all users, however, if you subscribe for a premium account, you will have access to Premium Service, with faster response times. You can also schedule a phone call with the support staff. When we tested the support center for the purposes of this Wix review, we found that response times for free users were decent (although certainly not excellent) and the staff was polite and helpful.
The Help Center section, however, is where you should be able to find answers to pretty much any dilemma you might have. The knowledgebase is divided into categories for easier orientation and it is one of the best we saw in this line of business.
In addition, you can use the Wix forum, where not only can you reach out to other Wix users, but also get all the latest info about templates, customization, SEO, apps and other topics.
Plans & Pricing
As you already read earlier in our Wix review, this website builder is available for free. However, as it is usually the case, free users do not get to enjoy the quite the same features as those with premium accounts. Still, from what we saw, the free Wix website builder is a pretty good editor that should work just fine for those who only want a small personal blog, a portfolio page or a website for their new business.
Wix offers several different premium plans. The most basic one is Connect Domain and it costs $4.50 per month. The Combo plan, designed for personal use, costs $8.50 per month and comes with a free domain and no Wix ads. The next plan up is Unlimited, designed for entrepreneurs and freelancers, and it costs $12.50 per month. This is their most popular plan that comes with unlimited bandwidth. The Ecommerce plan costs $16.50 per month and includes the online store. Finally, the VIP plan, which includes everything from the previous plans, plus professional site review and 10 e-mail campaigns per month, costs $24.50 per month.
